Ron update: today marks the end of 10 weeks at kaiser for Ron and, boy, do we have some great news to share! Ron hasn't had dialysis for a week now as he has partial kidney function back!!!! So tomorrow, first day of week eleven, they are going to remove his dialysis port. That's right, they are moving forward as though his kidneys are maintaining a low but functional level of filtering!!! Also, Ron has had his first drink of water a couple days ago! He loved it and his swallow was still intact. So the next day, he asked for food. While he was denied apricots, he has been given and jello and broth and tolerated it! We have a newly functional and functioning gi tract!!!! How exciting. Ron is overwhelmed by this step forward. He wrote tonight, "I will use all my love, friendship, and resources to excell for the rest of 2000 till I am out.".
Thank God! Thank you all. This improvement is testament of all your love and support! -the Guilliams family

then, he has had incredible success with doing his breathing tests

cytocysts and necrotic pancreatic tissue, which were going to
require 10-12 surgeries over the course of...

Spoke with Kathy today. Ron has been given a speaking valve and is now able to occassionally speak, and today he spoke his first words!

He will still be using some respirator assistance, but he is doing well. He is fully conscious and is overwhelmed with all the support and assistance he and his family are receiving.

There is hope that he may out of the hospital and going to the rehabilitation center within a week or so if everything goes well.

Keep the prayers coming!

The latest news is so encouraging and I am so thankful to God for answering our prayers. Continued healing and strength my friend, and know for certain that you and your family will continue to be in my prayers.
We are continuing to pray for a full and complete recovery...
...dear Father in heaven I lift our brother Ron and his family to you. Continue to bless his doctors and nurses with your wisdom. May your grace continue to bless the Guilliams family. Rusty & I visited Ron today @ Kaiser. Ron was getting ready to be transferred today to “New Orange Hills,” a rehab facility. Ron was in good spirits because of the transfer and he’s now allowed to drink liquids (1st time since he’s been admitted). Ron also has been doing a little walking around the hallways. Ron is allowed to have visitors, but please call beforehand. The address and telephone number of New Orange Hills is: 5017 East Chapman Ave, Orange, Ca 92869; telephone 714-997-7090; visiting hours are 24 hrs/day.
I saw Ron this afternoon......almost 30 years of friendship and he continues to inspire me. Please take a moment to send him a note or a card, and when speaking with your higher power put in a good word for our dear friend.
Jim Riley and I visited Ron a few days back. He was lifting weights and walking on stairs, it was inspirational to see him in such great spirits and working hard on his recovery. We talked for a little while and Ron expressed how grateful he and his wife are to all who have been supporting them through these tough times. Ron is expecting to go home in a few weeks and begin home therapy. This will be a HUGE step for Ron and Kathy and we are excited to hear this news!!
